In mid-2019, Mitsubishi Motors North America moved its headquarters to Franklin, Tennessee. In April 2020, despite the pandemic, Mitsubishi showed its commitment to the Tennessee community by hiring more than 150 new team members.

 

Mitsubishi Motors North America Celebrates Five Years in Tennessee

Mitsubishi Motors  North America, Inc. (MMNA) proudly celebrated its five-year anniversary in Tennessee in December 2024, marking a significant milestone in the company’s growth and success in the U.S. since operations began in 1982. For 37 years, MMNA called Cypress, Calif. its home, before relocating all headquarters operations to the Volunteer State in 2019. Since arriving in Tennessee, MMNA has made a lasting impact on the local community, creating approximately 180 jobs and contributing strongly to the region’s economic development. Along with its approximately 330 dealer partners, Mitsubishi Motors directly or indirectly employs more than 8,000 people across the United States.

Cumberland River Compact Partnership

Mitsubishi Motors partners with the Cumberland River Compact, a nonprofit based in Nashville, Tennessee that works to enhance the health and enjoyment of the Cumberland River and its tributaries. Beyond volunteer efforts, their initiatives also include stream and prairie restoration, urban forestry in Nashville, and reforestation of damaged mine lands, all aimed at ensuring ample clean water for Middle Tennesseans. MMNA employees spent a beautiful day with Cumberland River Compact and Cumberland Kayak & Adventure Company helping to clean up the Cumberland River in Nashville, TN.

Mitsubishi Motors Partners with Tennessee Nonprofit Tucker’s House

Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) is partnering with  Middle Tennessee-based nonprofit organization Tucker’s House, providing the organization with the use of a 2023 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid SUV. As part of MMNA’s Community Utility Vehicle (CUV) program, MMNA lends vehicles to nonprofit organizations, helping to make a difference in their local communities.

Research & Development

Mitsubishi Motors R&D of America is located in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The small but mighty team of 40 associates is tasked with driving the automakers’ innovations forward, which includes supporting 16 newly announced global vehicle models.

Q&A with Dan Holbrook, Vice President of Engineering at Mitsubishi Motors R&D of America

With the push for smarter and cleaner vehicles, the pressure is on to innovate quickly. Research and development (R&D) teams around the world are scrambling to translate consumer preferences and new regulations into safe, affordable production-ready technology.

For Mitsubishi’s US unit, that work is centered at Mitsubishi Motors R&D of America (MRDA) in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The facility’s nearly 40 specialists are devoted to monitoring technology trends, conducting market validation tests, adapting global vehicle for the US market and maintaining regulatory compliance. Dan Holbrook, Vice President of Engineering, has been at MRDA for seven years and describes the team as “some of the most talented, resilient and flexible people” that he has ever worked with. That could prove pivotal as they face a particularly busy development period ahead.
