July 22, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C.Autos Drive America and the American International Automobile Dealers Association (AIADA) today released their 2025 Economic Impact Report, highlighting the growing footprint and significant economic contributions of international automakers and nameplate dealers across the United States.

For the second consecutive year, international automakers produced more vehicles in the U.S. than the Detroit-3. In 2024, Autos Drive America member companies built 4.9 million light vehicles in their U.S. facilities, surpassing the 4.6 million vehicles produced domestically by Detroit-based manufacturers during the same period.

“International automakers have firmly established the United States as a core hub for their operations, investing more than $124 billion in U.S. facilities and communities,” said Jennifer Safavian, President and CEO of Autos Drive America. “Their commitment to American workers, customers, and communities has reshaped the automotive landscape in the United States over the past 30 years. Today and every day, our members are driving innovation, expanding U.S. manufacturing, creating high-quality job opportunities nationwide, and serving the communities in which they operate.”

Additional key findings in the 2025 report include:

  • International automakers produced 9 million vehicles in 2024, accounting for 48% of U.S. vehicle production.
  • International automakers contributed $39.6 billion in state and local tax revenue.
  • International automakers generated 2.4 million total direct and indirect U.S. jobs last year, helping to drive the growth of America’s skilled workforce.
  • International automakers exported 795,500 U.S.-built vehicles to nearly 130 countries and territories across the globe.

According to the 2025 Economic Impact Report, international automakers contributed $342 billion to the U.S. gross domestic product in 2024.

Last year, international automakers directly employed 162,000 Americans, including 100,000 in manufacturing jobs. Autos Drive America’s member companies continue to invest in their talented and dedicated workforce: in 2024, 75% of companies’ employees participated in workforce development programs. In total, these companies provided $195 billion in employee compensation in 2024, strengthening families and communities across the country.

“AIADA publishes this report each year to spotlight the profound impact international nameplate dealerships have right here in the United States,” said Cody Lusk, AIADA President and CEO. “With more than 9,400 dealerships operating across all 50 states, these businesses are deeply rooted in American communities, creating jobs, investing in local economies, and delivering high-quality vehicles and service to millions of customers. Their ongoing success further underscores the strength and value they bring to the U.S. economy every day.”
