Statement from Autos Drive America on USTR’s Final Determination on Section 301 Tariffs

September 13, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Jennifer Safavian, President and CEO of Autos Drive America, today released the following statement on USTR’s Final Determination on Section 301 Tariffs:

“Autos Drive America has pushed for bipartisan consensus on a long-term strategy to balance the efforts automakers and suppliers are making to diversify their supply chains in the face of the ongoing industry shift toward electrification. Today’s determination by USTR to uphold tariffs on the critical components and materials needed for EV and battery production hinders this progress by increasing costs for manufacturers and consumers, slowing the adoption of EVs. We are disappointed that USTR did not choose to delay these tariffs, which would have aligned the Biden administration’s trade policies more closely with the Department of the Treasury’s 30D Clean Vehicle Tax Credit, rather than working at cross purposes with those incentives.”
