Looking back on Volkswagen’s 2008 announcement that the automaker planned to create 2,000 jobs in Chattanooga

It’s been 15 years since Europe’s biggest auto maker announced it would spend $1 billion to build an assembly plant in Chattanooga’s Enterprise South Industrial Park, with hopes of bringing 2,000 jobs to the area. All these years later, the VW plant has met and exceeded the company’s 2008 projections. There are now about 5,000 Volkswagen employees in Chattanooga and the plant continues to expand.
