January 28, 2025

Autos Drive America, the leading voice for international automakers with operations in the United States, submitted comments today to the House Committee on Ways and Means on the need to make permanent several of the provisions in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act following the committee’s January 14 hearing titled, “The Need to Make Permanent the Trump Tax Cuts for Working Families.”

In the letter, Jennifer Safavian, President and CEO, wrote the following:

“The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) has been a key driver for the U.S. automotive industry to secure new investments toward U.S. manufacturing and create additional jobs for hardworking Americans to support their families…The engine of growth fueled by the TCJA enabled international automakers to increase investments, support American workers through additional job opportunities and workforce development programs, and expand manufacturing capabilities within the U.S. auto industry.”

Autos Drive America’s members have collectively invested more than $109 billion into their U.S. operations. They support more than 2.4 million jobs throughout America, including 156,000 manufacturing jobs.

Autos Drive America supports extending a number of provisions in the tax bill, including 100% bonus depreciation; research and development expensing; and the foreign-derived intangible deduction.
