Statement from Autos Drive America on U.S.-Japan Agreement Strengthening Critical Mineral Supply

WASHINGTON D.C. – Autos Drive America President & CEO Jennifer Safavian today issued the following statement in response to the Biden administration’s announcement of an agreement between the United States and Japan strengthening critical mineral supply chains:

“We are pleased with the announcement that the United States and Japan finalized an agreement to strengthen and secure the critical mineral supply chains needed to produce electric vehicles. This agreement allows Treasury to include critical minerals extracted or processed in Japan to meet the sourcing criteria under the Inflation Reduction Act’s clean vehicle tax credit.

“Partnering with our key allies allows producers of American-made clean vehicles to diversify and strengthen supply chains while fostering widespread consumer adoption of clean vehicles.  We urge the Biden administration to quickly finalize a similar agreement with the European Union.”
