Autos Drive America Applauds Ocean Shipping Reform Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Autos Drive America President and CEO Jennifer Safavian issued the following statement in response to President Joe Biden signing the Ocean Shipping Reform Act (S. 3580/H.R. 4996) into law today. Autos Drive America, which represents international automakers with operations in the United States, was among leading trade organizations that supported the bill. 

“It’s been 20 years since the Shipping Act was last updated. In that time, our global economy has become more interconnected and interdependent, with recent global events putting a strain on ports and shipping lanes. This bill will reduce shipping costs and alleviate supply chain disruptions, helping international automakers in the United States remain competitive and continue leading our economic recovery. We urge swift implementation by the Federal Maritime Commission and look forward to working with them as they begin the rulemaking process.”
