Automotive Supplier to Open Third Tuscaloosa County Facility

SMP Automotive Systems Alabama plans to add a third facility to its Tuscaloosa County operations.

“Tuscaloosa County is proud to be the home to now three SMP facilities,” said Mark Crews, the chairman of the Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development Authority. “This project enhances the company’s footprint in our community while enhancing job opportunities and advancements for our citizens.”

The international automotive supplier, a subsidiary of Samvardhana Motherson Group, produces exterior and interior components for vehicles manufactured at the Mercedes‐Benz U.S. International plant in Vance, along with providing logistics and other services.  More than 1,900 people now work at the company’s two Tuscaloosa County plants.
